P-Funk Rock Bowling

What better way to kick off America’s most beloved punk rock music festival, Punk Rock Bowling, than with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame inductee—and the man behind the beat of Parliament-Funkadelic—Bootsy Collins? That’s right. In the punkest move since the Knuckleheadz played a McDonald’s, PRB is putting the funk back in punk with a 25th anniversary kickoff party at the Fremont Country Club, featuring the P-Funk pioneer himself on May 22.

Bootsy won’t be alone: Angelo Moore of Fishbone will be performing with the Dr. Madd Vibe P-Funk Ensemble, featuring Micki Free, who’s best known as Prince’s former guitar player. Angelo recently collaborated with Bootsy’s old Parliament-Funkadelic crew member George Clinton on Fishbone’s latest record, Last Call in America. So you never know who might materialize at this show.

To kick off the party, Les Warner of the Cult and Evil E, a bandmate of ICE T, are set to perform something called Evil Cult, which is billed as a Battle DJ Drum Mashup. These are all things that sound great together to me, and I plan to be on time.
