Fishbone Says It’s “Last Call in America”

Well, if anybody thought Fishbone had lost their relevance and were just a band confined to the video vaults of '80s MTV with their best years behind them—THINK AGAIN.

"Last Call in America" is a bold piece of social commentary that speaks directly to the current social, economic, and political climate in America—a climate we’re all trying to endure without needing professional help. If you're reading this from somewhere else in the world and don’t really give a damn about America, still give this record a listen. Bear with us—it’s complicated, and a lot of us are embarrassed by it and working to fix it.

That said, what Fishbone and George Clinton have created here is a welcome blast of F-punkadelic day-glo color—hope and inspiration in a grim, doomsday-colored landscape shaped by leaders feverishly building our collective downfall. The message is loud and clear:

"Wake the fuck up, America!"

And it's coming from a band with a conscience, a backbone, and a set of grapefruits big enough to say what a lot of us are thinking.

Fishbone are putting the writing on the wall, warning of a coming storm where working-class gains of the last 40–50 years are being stripped away while the 1% and corporate parasites laugh and gorge. As the song puts it:
"Now the people are askin' Why, why, why.’"

The track was co-written by original members Christopher Dowd and Walter “Dirty Walt” Kibby and features George Clinton. The upcoming album, Stockholm Syndrome, is set for release on June 27.

The intro is spot on:
"The revolution is about to be televised; you picked the right time, but the WRONG guy."
This is revolutionary music for the here and now—not nostalgia.

Sure, it echoes the sound and fight of the '70s civil rights movement, but this is no throwback. It’s a warning—especially for those who missed the first 500 warnings. This is the soundtrack for the revolution. If we’re going down, we’re going down dancing—with Fishbone, fully aware of the stakes.

There’s a funky, intoxicating bassline straight out of the P-Funk/Parliament playbook. But the delivery, the energy, the urgency—it’s all 2025. The injustices that inspired this music back then are still with us today, especially for people of color.

Fishbone always had a tongue-in-cheek way of getting serious messages across. Here, though, the message isn’t subtle. It’s a kick in the pants. A funky, slick dance track for the revolution. And we’re lucky to have them—offering bravery, hope, and empowerment for everyone, across all backgrounds.

The accompanying music video brings the track to life—blending archival footage with a blazing live performance. It captures the chaos, the anger, and the resilience. It captures America right now.

As Fishbone gears up to release Stockholm Syndrome, they’re still fierce, still uncompromising, and now hitting the road with a vengeance.
